In an interview in June's Entrepreneur, Seth Godin, who has more than 50,000 followers on Twitter, says that Twitter can become "a very unhealthy and distracting addiction."
In an interview for the article, "Twitter: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?," Godin says, "I don't see a way to use Twitter properly and still do the work I do at the level I'd like to do it. So rather than use it halfway, I decided not to use it at all."
I think that a lot of companies that have not yet embarked on social media feel the same way as Godin does. PR functions within organizations or their PR agencies have to evaluate what the company could gain -- or lose -- by not participating in social media.
Don't forget: Godin engages in a lot of other social media activities, including blogging and podcasts.
Insights and attitude about PR, journalism and traditional and social media.

Inc's Blog of the Month for October -- Worth checking out
Inc. Magazine's "Blog of the Month" for October points to Seth Godin, writing about change. blogs about learning how to embrace change:
"The best way to get smarter, to embrace and to cause change and to triumph in times of market turmoil is to adopt the scientific method. Ask yourself, 'What do I believe that's wrong? How can I change the way I do things? What works? What doesn't?'…Restlessness and the scientific method…create a culture of testing and inquiry that can't help but push you forward."Godin's blog with well worth reading. Check it out.

Is Chris Anderson Right or Wrong? Or Free or Not Free, that is the question
There's a lot of debate about Chris Anderson's new book, “Free: The Future of a Radical Price.”
Malcolm Gladwell reviewed the book negatively in the New Yorker, in a review entitled, "Priced to Sell: Is free the future?"
Seth Godin responded by writing, "Malcolm is wrong."
Then Bruce Nussbaum at BusinessWeek looked at the debate in "Seth Godin Vs. Malcolm Gladwell on Chris Anderson's Book, Free," and declared the winner to be...
Gladwell.
Then more people weighed in on the debate. You can check out the debate here.
What do I think?
I think there's a lot to be said on both sides of the debate.
But here's my question: If Anderson believes in free so much, how come: he's charging $26.99 via Amazon -- full price, too! How come his magazine, Wired, charges a subscription fee?
Suddenly free isn't so appealing, I guess.
